My Story
Hi, I’m Norah van den Heuvel.
From a young age, I was inspired by stories of people serving others, and something about it deeply touched my heart.
I remember watching a series about a girl living on board one of the ships with Mercy Ships and thinking, that’s what I want to do too. Even though I didn’t know what the journey would look like, that desire never left me.
Over the years, I’ve discovered more about who I am and what I love. I’m passionate about working with children, their honesty, creativity, and enthusiasm inspire me every day. I love being creative, connecting with people, exploring new cultures, and finding joy in the little things. For me, life with Jesus is an adventure, one that continues to shape and guide my path.
A special experience was my trip to Cambodia with Fountain of Hope. Traveling through different communities, I encountered incredible resilience, generosity, and joy, and met people whose courage and faith deeply impacted me. Seeing the power of community, sustainable impact, and the love of Jesus in action made me realize that I want to be part of this kind of work.
I’m currently serving on the Africa Mercy in Madagascar as the 2nd/3rd grade teacher. I’m grateful to be part of the beautiful work of Mercy Ships. It is a privilege to serve families together, and I am enjoying seeing my students grow, develop, and discover a different culture.
Alongside teaching, dance has always been a big part of my life. Since I was a little girl, I’ve loved to dance, whether in the living room or on stage. It’s one of the ways I express myself, connect with others, and worship God. Dance, like teaching, is a way for me to bring creativity, joy, and connection into the world around me.
This is a small part of my journey, and I’m excited for what’s ahead!!
